I KANA si dividono in HIRAGANA e KATAKANA:
- HIRAGANA: è il corsivo. Serve per sostituire i kanji e per scrivere suffissi verbali e posposizioni.
- KATAKANA: è lo stampatello. Usato per scrivere onomatopee e parole straniere.
Non possono essere usati insieme all'interno di una stessa parola.
